Four Essential Words - Presentation
I am in my early 60's and I am doing what I did not do in the previous five decades of my life. I am using some supplements to help maintain health. I take four supplements daily. None are prescribed but I take them anyway in order to provide my body some assistance in maintaining health. The four supplements benefit my body and my body definitely has a shelf life, so to speak. However, God has given us four provisions, since we are His children through faith in Christ Jesus, that are essential to our spiritual vitality. This blog will examine each of the provisions, represented by four words, that are essential for our spiritual well being and growth. There will be four posts focusing on one of the four essential words in each post.
The four words are found in Romans chapters 6 - 8. The first of the four words is presentation and is found in Romans 6:16,19. Here Paul tells the believer that he / she is to be daily presenting their body to the Lord. through which the righteousness we possess in Christ is expressed, engaged and experienced in our lives. This is to be a daily presentation of our bodies to be vessels or instruments of the righteousness we possess in Christ Jesus. This is to be intentional and reaffirmed throughout the day to remind us that our bodies are no longer under the power and dominion of sin. Our bodies are to express the new creation which we are in Christ Jesus.
To state it simply and practically, each day we are to incorporate into the start of our day the intentional, cogent commitment of our bodies to the Lord to be instruments of Christ's righteousness. This puts into focus one of the great purposes for which we are justified, to express the glory of God's righteousness by presenting our bodies to Him daily. I think you get the idea and picture from these two verses, is a daily presentation of ourselves, including our bodies to live according to the new life we have in Christ.
"Do your not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Rm. 6:16
"I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members (bodies) as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members (bodies) as slaves of righteousness." Rm. 6:19
